I have worked with adolescents and adults in a variety of settings including private practice, community mental health, medical hospitals, and inpatient psychiatric facilities. Throughout my training I have had valuable experiences working with diverse patient backgrounds and psychological conditions. I completed my masters and doctoral degrees at Midwestern University.
A large portion of my clinical and educational training has focused on the awareness and integration of the mind-body relationship; thus, I work to address the importance of maintaining or achieving optimal health by acknowledging the role of our emotions on our overall wellbeing and health behaviors. I have also had extensive training in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, including those who have experienced vicarious trauma. Another area of focus in my therapy practice has been working with those who experience inappropriate guilt, interpersonal conflicts, and challenges with emotional vulnerability.
In addition to short- and long- term psychotherapy, I have also received training in neuropsychological assessment.
It can be a very challenging and intimidating decision to begin therapy. In utilizing a warm, authentic, and non-judgmental approach I aim to establish a strong therapeutic relationship to create an environment in which patients feel comfortable to fully explore their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relational patterns. There is no single approach to therapy. As such, I utilize a variety of evidence-based practices to ensure that interventions are tailored to each person’s needs. One framework I take while conducting psychotherapy is to not over-pathologize normative emotions and reactions. I seek to understand the "why?" and get to the foundation of the presenting concerns by exploring what may have contributed to the development and maintenance of such concerns. My passion and commitment are to provide the best care possible by working collaboratively, creatively, and skillfully to promote success toward the patient’s treatment goals. In accomplishing this, time will be spent understanding the individual unique perception and life experiences to foster understanding before identifying the path toward change.
